Things I Did Not Want to See in 2013

new-years-eve-fireworks-382856I am extremely disappointed with how people presented themselves this year.

My first example is my (was my) childhood idol.

Miley Cyrus

I understand your need to stand out and show the world that you are officially an adult. I get that. That is the goal for nearly everyone who exists; to show how much they have grown up. But seriously? You’re 21 years old! As a 19 year old I am so upset with how you have handled your life. I know it’s your own decision, but why mess up your life so early? You had so much going for you. You had an innumerable amount of adoring fans. One which used to be me. In fact I dressed up as Hannah Montana once for Halloween. You captured the hearts of my generation.

I remember seeing you as the opening act for The Cheetah Girls. I saw you in your Best of Both Worlds Tour. I recall thinking your outfits in that tour were very scandalous, but I get it, it was all about creating your adult image…you know when you were 15/16 years old. At 15/16  years old I remember thinking I couldn’t wait to go to college, have a successful life and make myself the best version of myself. Do you think you really are the best version of yourself though? If you think are, then great! Keep it going.

I really disagree with your endorsement of marijuana. The last thing younger children need is someone saying how great something that is so bad for you, is. I really miss the old Miley. honestly, I loved your songs. In fact some of your new tracks aren’t awful either, but your music videos are a different story. Wearing next to nothing? Please, do yourself a favor and have some self respect for yourself. If you are going for the shock factor, it is not working anymore. Everyone is totally over it. You are no longer shocking people, just upsetting them and setting an awful example for children. When I hear that young girls are into “twerking” it makes me dislike you even more. I know you may believe that kids may not watch your stuff (the VMA performance, your music videos, or your speeches) but that is where you are wrong, with the easily accessible  videos on Youtube children of all ages can see your nearly pornographic videos.

Honestly, your videos need to have age restrictions on them. I would never let anyone under 18 watch them. It is setting a terrible example for young girls. “Maybe if I smoke weed, dress provocatively, and stick my tongue out sexually, I’ll get that boy to fall in love with me. As a teenager myself, I can say that I do not want to see it and neither do any of my friends! We all grew up with you and loved you and now we cannot stand you. I am sorry that your fans are no longer loving this “new Miley”. Are you loving her? To me it seems like the change was so drastic that this can’t really be you… You have said in many interviews that you were told to act a certain way to maintain a certain image. I feel like the way you are acting now keeps getting so absolutely absurd that you, once again, are being instructed how to act in order to “relate” to older people who may become your fans. Which by the way, to older people you are just another Lindsey Lohan. Someone who was just another Disney star who had immense potential, then ruined it all trying to grow up too fast. Why did you do this? I know you are not going to read this, but if you were to, I would ask you to rethink what example you are setting for people. Oh, you don’t care? Well when you no longer think that people younger than you are self respecting, blame people such as yourself.

Sexual Music

When did every lyric that came out of a musicians mouth have to be sexual? Is it literally impossible to sing about anything else? A perfect example of this is Robin Thicke’s ever popular, Blurred Lines. Yes, the tune is catchy, I’ll give it that, but the lyrics are so horrible.

Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

[Verse 1: Robin Thicke]
If you can’t hear what I’m trying to say
If you can’t read from the same page
Maybe I’m going deaf,
Maybe I’m going blind
Maybe I’m out of my mind
[Pharrell:] Everybody get up

[Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke]
OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you’re an animal, baby, it’s in your nature
Just let me liberate you
Hey, hey, hey
You don’t need no papers
Hey, hey, hey
That man is not your maker

[Chorus: Robin Thicke]
And that’s why I’m gon’ take a good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You’re a good girl
Can’t let it get past me
You’re far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
But you’re a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me
[Pharrell:] Everybody get up

[Verse 2: Robin Thicke]
What do they make dreams for
When you got them jeans on
What do we need steam for
You the hottest bitch in this place
I feel so lucky
Hey, hey, hey
You wanna hug me
Hey, hey, hey
What rhymes with hug me?
Hey, hey, hey

[Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke]
OK now he was close, tried to domesticate you
But you’re an animal, baby it’s in your nature
Just let me liberate you
Hey, hey, hey
You don’t need no papers
Hey, hey, hey
That man is not your maker
Hey, hey, hey

[Chorus: Robin Thicke]
And that’s why I’m gon’ take a good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You’re a good girl
Can’t let it get past me
You’re far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
[Pharrell:] Everybody get up
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I hate them lines
I know you want it
I hate them lines
I know you want it
But you’re a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

[Verse 3: T.I.]
One thing I ask of you
Let me be the one you back that ass to
Go, from Malibu, to Paris, boo
Yeah, I had a bitch, but she ain’t bad as you
So hit me up when you pass through
I’ll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two
Swag on, even when you dress casual
I mean it’s almost unbearable
In a hundred years not dare, would I
Pull a Pharside let you pass me by
Nothing like your last guy, he too square for you
He don’t smack that ass and pull your hair like that
So I just watch and wait for you to salute
But you didn’t pick
Not many women can refuse this pimpin’
I’m a nice guy, but don’t get it if you get with me

[Bridge: Robin Thicke]
Shake the vibe, get down, get up
Do it like it hurt, like it hurt
What you don’t like work?

[Pre-chorus: Robin Thicke]
Baby can you breathe? I got this from Jamaica
It always works for me, Dakota to Decatur, uh huh
No more pretending
Hey, hey, hey
Cause now you winning
Hey, hey, hey
Here’s our beginning

[Chorus: Robin Thicke]
I always wanted a good girl
(Pharrell: Everybody get up)
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You’re a good girl
Can’t let it get past me
You’re far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
I hate these blurred lines
(Pharrell: Everybody get up)
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
But you’re a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

[Outro: Pharrell]
Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

If you went through and read all the lyrics you can see how awfully offensive they were. Just a quite dissection of them and we notice how forceful, sexual, and demeaning they are. I once read an article about a womens depiction of how all these lyrics are things that have been said to women of rapes. That article completely changed my view of the song. I had never absorbed that lyrics completely, and then I read them in her article and saw for the first time, what this song really means.

“But you’re a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty”

No, the girl doesn’t want to “get nasty” just because she grabbed you. That is the stupidest assumption I have ever seen.

Now, let us discuss the obvious drug lyrics.

“Baby can you breathe? I got this from Jamaica
It always works for me”

Yet another example of drugs that are not necessary in lyrics.

Now here’s props to the worst song lyric writer ever:

“You wanna hug me
Hey, hey, hey
What rhymes with hug me?”

IF YOU COULD NOT FIND SOMETHING THAT RHYMED WITH HUG ME, TAKE THE DANG LYRIC OUT OF THE SONG. OH MY GOODNESS.

Next song that I’ll dissect:

By Lady Gaga

I feel good, I walk alone
But then I trip upon myself and I fall
I, I stand up, and then I’m okay
But then you print that shit
That makes me want to scream

So do what you want
What you want with my body
Do what you want
Don’t stop, let’s party
Do what you want
What you want with my body
Do what you want
What you want with my body

Write what you want
Say what you want ’bout me
If you wanna know that I’m not sorry

Do what you want
What you want with my body
What you want with my body

You can’t have my heart
And you won’t use my mind but
Do what you want (with my body)
Do what you want with my body
You can’t stop my voice cause
You don’t own my life but
Do what you want (with my body)
Do what you want (with my body)

Early morning, longer nights
Tom Ford, private flights
Crazy schedule, fast life
I wouldn’t trade it in
‘Cause it’s our life (now let’s slow it down…)

I could be the drink in your cup
I could be the green in your blunt
Your pusha man, ya I got what you want
You wanna escape all of the crazy shit
You’re the Marilyn, I’m the president
And I’d love to hear you sing, girl

Do what I want
Do what I want with your body
Do what I want
Do what I want with your body
Back of the club, taking shots, getting naughty
No invitations, it’s a private party
Do what I want
Do what I want with your body
Do what I want
Do what I want with your body
Ya we taking these haters and we rough ’em up
And we lay in the cut like we don’t give a fuck

You can’t have my heart
And you won’t use my mind but
Do what you want (with my body)
Do what you want with my body
You can’t stop my voice cause
You don’t own my life but
Do what you want (with my body)
Do what you want (with my body)

Sometimes I’m scared I suppose
If you ever let me go
I would fall apart
If you break my heart
So just take my body
And don’t stop the party

You can’t have my heart
And you won’t use my mind but
Do what you want (with my body)
Do what you want with my body
You can’t stop my voice cause
You don’t own my life but
Do what you want (with my body)
Do what you want (with my body)

Do what you want with me
What you want with my body
Do what you want with me
What you want with my body
Do what you want with me
What you want with my body
Do what you want with me
What you want with my body

Just look above at that last verse. How about you don’t “do what you want with my body”

I feel as if this song dehumanizes women. It makes me uncomfortable to listen to this song as I feel as if I am being targeted and being treated like an animal, not like a human.

This is just another sexual song that should not have been produced.

These are the main things that really disappointed me this year.

Really, because I feel like these affect me more than most the entertainment news out there.

Anyway,

There’s that,

Beth
